If you work in a prison

What is the number?

An ordinary UK geographic landline number. It is allocated to one household. It only receives calls. It cannot make outbound calls. It cannot reach 999.

Does it divert or re-route?

No. The number is held on a SIM in the account holder's own handset. A call to it is a call to that phone. There is no diversion service. There is no forwarding platform. There is no app in the path.

Who is the account holder?

One named adult who pays for it. We hold their name, email and mobile. We hold nothing about the person in custody. No name. No prisoner number. No relationship. So we cannot confirm or deny who a number is meant for.

Why would a family use one?

Calls from prison to a landline cost 2.48p a minute. Calls to a mobile cost 5.50p. Those are the published HMPPS rates. The same spending cap buys about twice as much contact.

How do I verify a specific number?

Email security@ringyard.co.uk from an official address. Include the number on the application. We will confirm whether it is one of ours. We will say when it was issued. We will confirm it is a receive-only landline. We will not disclose the account holder's details without a lawful request.

Can you tell us whether to approve it?

No. That is a decision for the establishment under its own policy. We do not advise on it. We can only tell you what the number is.
